Castle Season 5 Episode 1 Castle‘s fifth season premieres on September 24 with “After the Storm,” which will see what happens the morning after for Castle and Beckett and reveal more about Beckett’s mother’s murder. Three new preview clips have been released from this first episode.

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 “After four seasons of ‘will they’ or ‘won’t they,’ Richard Castle and Kate Beckett finally gave in to their feelings for each other in the much anticipated Season 4 finale. Season 5 picks up on the proverbial morning after, with Castle and Beckett facing new questions — Was this a one-time fling, or are they now a couple? But before they find the answers, they must take on the forces responsible for Beckett’s mother’s murder that now threaten Kate Beckett’s life.”

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 The first sneak peek from “After the Storm” (below) shows Ryan stopping by Beckett’s, and when he asks Castle why he’s there, Castle’s response makes it obvious he’s hiding something. Fortunately for them, Ryan’s focused on the case. Beckett may have resigned, but Ryan warns her the guy who threw her off the roof is still out there. He needs her to look at a copy of the photo taken from the wedding album. While she doesn’t recognize the man, Castle does as the man who’s been protecting her. Castle has an ominous warning: “If we don’t get to him before Maddox does, you’ll never be safe again.” Just when Beckett thought she could get out of the job, she’s pulled back in in some way. Did you expect anything different?

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 The second Castle season 5 premiere clip (below) shows Esposito turning to a friend to tape into the DoD database and get him everything he can on Maddox. He’ll keep coming if they don’t stop him, and Esposito reassures him that he won’t be caught. It’s pretty hard to say no to someone who took a bullet for you, and Esposito presses the right buttons to get a yes to his favor request.

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 The third “After the Storm” sneak peek (below) shows Esposito with Castle and Beckett updating them on what he found out about Maddox, including his real name. He hands Beckett his extra gun as they approach a room, in which they find Maddox has opened a safe and put his gun down. Beckett tells him not to move and to hand over the file. Unsurprisingly, Maddox is not planning on listening to her. This can’t end well.

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 If we kept them apart any longer, say another season — after what Castle had put on the table at the end of last season — in my mind, that would have been the death of the series. Then, we would have just been being artificial. They would have become brother and sister, and then we’re just ignoring everything that had happened. There comes a point where you have to confront it.

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 Figuring out their rhythms with one another is going to be fun for the audience to watch. In no way do we think this is going to end the fun and the tension between Castle and Beckett because the question is now going to become: Where does this relationship go and how does it affect their ability to work together?

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 We do put the relationship under threat right away with Maddox’s threat at the end of the episode. I have a good ballpark sense of where we’re going. And I’m not going to advertise it too much because that’s the fun of the ride. You don’t want to show everybody exactly what the rises and falls of the roller coaster are when they get on it. You want them to be surprised at the twists and turns. Sleeping together is a great hallmark, but to get to the promised land of a happy ending, there’s a long way for these guys to go.

Castle Season 5 Episode 1 I don’t want to go into in too much detail because we still have some moving pieces on the board on that one, and I’m not going to commit myself to anything one way or another. But it is something we plan to pick up on when we get back, but it’s not somewhere we’re looking for the series to dwell. We’re looking to get Beckett beyond some of that stuff to the point where she can rediscover who she is and [she and Castle] can deal with this decision they have made.
